Unusual weather conditions in Upper Egypt due to climate change: Official

The head of the Climate Information Center at the Egyptian Agriculture Ministry Mohamed Fahim said Saturday that Upper Egypt is currently witnessing unusual weather conditions.

During a phone interview with the al-Hadath al-Youm channel, Fahim explained that temperatures have been rising over the past two days in Upper Egypt, recording about 35C to 36C – unusual during this period of the year as the country is still in winter.

The temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday will reach 38C degrees in the southernmost governorates, he said, which is unusual during this time of the year.

The head of the Climate Information Center explained that this is a symptom of climate change in Egypt.

He warned that winter crops are at risk as they cannot withstand this climate.
