Prosecutors receive accounts of live bullets in Tahrir last week

The public prosecution on Thursday heard eyewitness testimonies about clashes that have taken place in and around Tahrir Square over the last week. The prosecution has acknowledged that casualties were caused by bird shot, tear gas, live rounds and rubber bullets.

Prosecutors also received CD recordings of the clashes, and heard testimonies from security personnel hit by bullets fired from automatic weapons or injured from being pelted with stones.

They are also investigating 27 people who were arrested by the protesters and the military police for throwing Molotov cocktails during a declared truce. The arrested are supporters of a prominent former National Democratic Party (NDP) member who is currently jailed in Tora prison, sources claimed.

Prosecutors are also investigating the arrest of an American woman, as three other Americans were released following 10 hours of investigations in the presence of a representative from the US Embassy.
