President Mohamed Morsy will take action against former regime figures over the coming days, according to a presidential source.
Morsy is expected to make a series of decisions to combat corruption before the end of the week, the source added.
The same source declined to uncover the nature of the procedures Morsy is expected to adopt but emphasized that they will not be exceptional in nature and will conform to the law.
Mass protests are to be staged on Sunday to call for Morsy's ouster from power and early presidential elections. Protesters are already flocking in large numbers to protest spots across Egypt.
Meanwhile, pro-Morsy protesters are staging a sit-in at Rabea al-Adaweya square in Cairo.
