President Mohamed Morsy has invited Mohamed ElBaradei and Hazem Salah Abu Ismail to a meeting aimed at reaching consensus over the latest constitution draft, presidential spokesperson Yasser Ali said Thursday.
“Discussions of the constitution have been very fruitful,” Ali said. “We shall announce good news soon.”
“Everybody agrees to constitutional stability so that we can hold the parliamentary elections,” he added.
Morsy also met earlier this week with former presidential candidates Hamdeen Sabbahi and Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh to discuss the matter.
Secular and liberal political forces criticize articles related to personal freedoms and presidential powers in the current draft, while Islamists insist on an article stipulating Sharia as the main source of legislation.
The final draft of the constitution is scheduled to be issued on 20 November, Constituent Assembly secretary general Amr Darrag told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Thursday.
