Military council rejects reports that armed forces used live ammo

The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) accused some media outlets and internet websites of circulating false news about the way the council deals with protests.

In a Facebook message, SCAF denied reports that the military used live ammunition to break up protests.

“The armed forces didn’t and will not use force against the revolution’s youth or any one of these great people,” the council stated.

The council called on Egyptians to “guard the country’s interests during the upcoming period and confront anyone who tries to break the unity between the people and the army.”

The council said attempts to create division provoke resentment and serve Egypt’s enemies who are doing their utmost to destabilize the country.

The SCAF also dismissed charges and penalties against 120 protesters arrested on 9 March when the military broke up a demonstration in Tahrir Square. Their sentences ranged between one and seven years.
