Egyptian tourism achieves highest growth rate in the last 15 years

The Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops and Tourism Activities at Egypt’s Tourism Ministry, Mohamed Amer, announced that the total number of new hotel rooms that were opened or re-operated during the past year amounted 14,209 rooms.

This is an unprecedented number, Amer said, representing Egyptian tourism’s highest growth rate in the last 15 years with a seven percent growth rate in the size of hotel capacity, totaling 220,044 rooms.

This came during Amer’s meeting with Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa on Tuesday.

Amer reviewed the final standing of the number of hotel rooms that were added to the existing capacity from December 2022 to December 2023 through the opening of new hotel facilities, reopening facilities that were closed, or the expansion of already existing facilities.

Issa stressed the importance of speeding up construction of the required hotel rooms, to accommodate what Egypt is targeting for incoming tourist traffic in order to receive 30 million tourists by 2028.
