Court battles over lawsuits seeking to ban former National Democratic Party (NDP) members from running for parliament continued in many governorates Thursday.
The Assiut Administrative Court ruled Wednesday against six complaints filed by parliamentary candidates to prevent 13 former NDP members from running in the elections scheduled to begin on 28 November.
The court based its ruling on the Supreme Administrative Court decision issued Monday that suspended a political ban against members of the dissolved former ruling party.
Another administrative court in Fayoum postponed until 20 November issuing a verdict on a Freedom and Justice Party lawsuit against 17 former NDP members.
Salafis and Muslim Brotherhood candidates in Daqahlia Governorate have recently accused former NDP members of tearing down their election banners.
Freedom and Justice Party candidates in Daqahlia Yousry Hany and Tareq Qotb, as well as Salafi-led Nour Party candidates, said they were surprised Tuesday to find their campaign posters torn in Al-Gondy al-Maghoul Square. The Islamist candidates’ banners had replaced those of former NDP members that were torn down during Eid al-Adha.
