Cairo International Airport received 12 packages of gold ore Tuesday coming from Sukkari Gold Mine in Marsa Alam, the Eastern Desert.
Cairo airport authorities imposed tight security measures around the airport while the packages were being received.
Security sources said the 12 packages weighed 291,229 kg. The shipment came on board a private jet and was transferred to the headquarters of a private company in preparation for exporting it to Canada.
The shipment will be transferred to Canada on a German plane to be sold on international stock exchanges, the sources added.
