The Supreme Administrative Court has ordered the Nile University to be transformed into a non-profit institution and emphasized the university’s rights over its buildings and land, according to Mohamed Sultan, the media spokesperson for Nile University.
The ruling came after the court reviewed the case Wednesday. The session came after an initial postponement in order to allow both Nile University and the Zewail City of Science and Technology to submit memorandums within the case.
A report by the State Commissioners Authority had said the Nile University was rightful in its claim to the land and buildings at the Zewail City of Science and Technology, and that it had the right to transform itself into a non-profit institution.
The ruling potentially brings to an end an ongoing dispute between the two institutions. Nile University students have staged protests several times over what they said were attempts by Zewail City to take over their campus and their facilities.
