Former official referred to prosecution over salutation of foreign flags in schools, celebrating WWI

An informed source with the Education Ministry said that Education Minister Hilali Sherbini ratified a decision referring the former director and chairman of the private and international education sector with the ministry to the Administrative Prosecution over celebrating the anniversary of the end of WWI in some international schools.

The ministry received communications against the former official accusing him of negligence to his duties regrading the follow up of international schools that committed violations, such as saluting foreign flags and chanting foreign national anthems, the source added.

"Those irregularities were referred for investigation because they affect the sovereignty and prestige of the Egyptian state," said Sherbini.

Al-Masry Al-Youm published a report on November 12, 2015, about the celebration in a number of international schools of the anniversary of the end of WWI and a request for students to wear the badge of the Allied Army and to salute the flags of foreign countries with their national anthems.

The Education Ministry opened an investigation and verified the incident on December 11.
