The Salafi Nour Party is under fire from other Islamist groups over its call to citizens to vote in support for the draft of amendments to Egypt’s constitution.
Nour Party was the only Islamist group that took part in the panel that amended the 2012 constitution drafted under deposed president Mohamed Morsy of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The vote on the constitution is expected early 2014.
Alaa Abul Nasr, general secretary of Jama’a al-Islamiya’s Construction and Development Party, said Nour Party’s support for the document is a “false testimony, it is like a louche woman that wants everybody to be like her,” adding that the document expected for referendum is not worth describing as a constitution.
Safwat Abdel Ghany, a leading member at Jama’a al-Islamiya, said, “Islamists have no choice other than inviting the people to boycott the referendum on the constitution of the coup.” He said people will not be taken in by Nour Party’s call.
Mohamed Abu Samra, general secretary of the Islamic Party, accused Nour Party of “seeking to undermine the Islamic project.”
Hamza Zawba, spokesperson for the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, waged severe criticisms against Nour Party's assistant chairman, Nader Bakkar, over his call to support the draft.
“Nader Bakkar is inviting (the Brotherhood) to vote ‘yes’ to the army’s so-called constitution. How rude!” Zawba tweeted. “This is treason and rudeness.”
“The Salafi party is at war with Islamists in coordination with secularist atheists,” said Mahmoud Fathy, chairman of the Salafi-oriented Fadila party.
