All the cats of downtown know Ragaa Abdel Qadir. She loves them. She has been living among them for more than 25 years and considers them as her children, which has made her only daughter jealous.
Ragaa had 12 cats at home, of which only two are left, so she decided to take care of the street cats. “I look for the sick ones to treat and the hungry ones to feed,” says Abdel Qadir.
As soon as she goes down, the cats hurry to her. She talks to them and she cuddles them. “When my cats sleep next to me I don’t move so that I don’t wake them up,” she says. “People make fun of me. They tell me better go feed humans.”
Abdel Qadir loves all animals. She says donkeys are the most brutally treated.
