We are impartial in elections, says military police commander

Major General Hamdi Badin, commander of Egypt's military police, said on Wednesday that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) is impartial to all political parties and movements running in the parliamentary elections.

“It is not in the interests of the army to side with the liberals, the Muslim Brotherhood or the leftists,” he said.

“What confirms our neutrality, is that we have arrested nine candidates from different trends who were promoting themselves inside and outside of the polling stations in violation of the law,” Badin said. “They were all referred to the attorney general.”

“There is full coordination with the president of the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections and the police in this respect,” he added.

Badin also said that violations in the second phase of the elections were fewer than in the first.
