Unique Al-Mulid Al-Nabawy celebrations in Red Sea, Aswan provinces

In the Red Sea and Aswan provinces, for Al-Mulid Al-Nabawy, the Prophet Mohamed’s birth, residents celebrate by practicing inherited historic traditions.

In Aswan, the 46 Sufi orders start the celebrations in the beginning of the month of Rabei al-Awal by establishing tents decorated with lights, and offering free food and drink.

Mostafa Ismail of one of the Sufi orders said the celebrations started on 11 Rabei al-Awal on Friday, where senior sheikhs and members of every order gather to raise their flags. Marches were staged across the cities' main streets. Religious slogans were sung, and they raised colored flags reading words praising the Prophet.

Ismail added that Aswan was the biggest province celebrating the Mulid.

In the Red Sea, residents of Qusair city celebrate the Mulid through a parade that marches across the city, a tradition that has been practiced for hundreds of years. The parade starts from Al-Owayna area, known for its many shrines. Women and children wait outside houses to watch the parade and join them.

Yasser Khalil, a resident from Qusair, prepares a few days before the parade where camels join marching until midnight.
