Thugs assault protesters in Suez before being chased off

Six thugs and ex-convicts armed with swords and blank-firing pistols assaulted 6000 protesters in the Arbein Square of Suez on Tuesday before being chased from the area by soldiers.

Since Monday, the demonstrators have been protesting against the release on bail of police officers accused of killing demonstrators during the 25 January revolution and the postponement of their trial to 4 September. The Suez Criminal Court released 14 police officers on bail of LE10,000 each.

The protesters blame the court, the government, the military council and the Interior Ministry for what they see as a failure to apply justice.
