Three Africans injured while trying to enter Egypt illegally

Egyptian authorities have arrested 28 Eritrean and Ethiopian nationals who tried to sneak into Egypt across its southern border.

Three of the would-be migrants were injured in a shootout with police and later taken to hospital.

The Africans said they had paid smugglers US$1000 each to help them infiltrate into Egypt, from where they planned to move on to Israel.

Police charged the men with illegal trespass and possession of unlicensed weapons.

According to security authorities, more than 150 Eritrean and Ethiopian nationals have been arrested this year alone for trying to enter the country illegally.
