Security authorities blocked a demonstration yesterday in Tahrir Square called by the 6 April Youth movement to protest the murder of Khaled Saeed, an Alexandrian teen allegedly killed by two police officers.
Thirty protesters were arrested and held in Central Security vans after clashes between between protesters and security forces.
A security source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the detainees are being interrogated to determine whether they will be released or have police reports filed againts them.
About 30 Egyptian nationals in London took part yesterday in a two-hour protest in front of the Egyptian embassy to denounce the alleged murder and the Emergency Law. Demonstrators, who included members of Islamic groups and the National Association for Change(NAC), chanted against the Egyptian government and Interior Ministry. They carried fliers criticizing Egypt’s “state media”, which they say worked on justify the killings, and hoisted banners depicting portraits of Mohamed ElBaradei, the former director of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a potential candidate in Egypt’s upcoming presidential election.
