Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in a two-day visit in Cairo on Thursday coming from the South Korean Capital of Seoul.
Informed sources at Cairo International Airport said Lavrov was received by ambassador Nabil Habashi, deputy foreign minister, and Russian Ambassador to Egypt Sergei Kirpichenko.
Lavrov will join the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who arrived on Wednesday, during his meeting with Interim President Adli Mansour to mull recent developments in the region and methods of boosting cooperation between Egypt and Russia.
In related news, Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met on Thursday morning with his Russian counterpart Shoigu at the ministry headquarters in Kobri al-Qubba district.
The Russian ministers’ visits to Egypt comes following several ones made by Egyptian political and popular figures to Russia. Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy paid a visit to Russia in mid-September. A delegation of political and popular officials visited Moscow in November. The Russian missile cruiser Varyag arrived in Alexandria earlier this week and a Russian popular delegation is currently visiting Cairo.
