PM on Twitter: Elections will help us fulfil social demands

Egypt's interim Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Wednesday urged Egyptians to postpone protests voicing social demands until after the parliamentary elections scheduled for 28 November.

"The problem of constitutionality will be resolved through elections, which will help us respond to social demands," Sharaf said in a Twitter message.

Several protests by workers at different state institutions have taken place outside the cabinet’s headquarters over the past few days, forcing security forces to close the street to contain the demonstrations. The protesters have been demanding better financial and social conditions.

Sharaf’s government has been under fire over the past several months due to worsening economic and security conditions, with many activists and politicians calling for ministers and the prime minister himself to resign.
