The Egyptian Tax Authority said the most abiding taxpayers among private-sector professions are the doctors, with 48 percent of the segment’s total tax revenue, followed by lawyers with 16 percent, engineers with 11 percent, artists with 8 percent, other experts with 6 percent, accountants with 5 percent and teachers with 1.16 percent, according to 2013 statistics.
Finance Ministry Undersecretary Samira Farag said the Tax Authority has increased its revenues by 22 percent from 2012, but has still no met the target.
She said tax officials audit the books of private-sector professionals directly, which helped increase the number of tax subscribers. “Voluntary tax reports are still low,” she said.
