Egypt's Salafi Nour Party has urged President Mohamed Morsy to respond to its initiative to resolve the burgeoning political crisis, as anti-government opposition extends beyond party political lines ahead of 30 June demonstrations.
Opposition is no longer confined to political parties, Nour officials said, claiming discontent was now spreading to one-time supporters of the president.
It also said in a statement on Wednesday that the current political conflict should not be characterized as a war between "believers and infidels."
"There will be no victor. The biggest loser will be Egypt itself,” it said.
“The opposition is not against Morsy’s Islamic project or the Sharia,” the statement said, urging the president to look into reasons why former supporters, including some Islamists, had now turned against him.
“We should set aside conspiracy theories and call for genuine national reconciliation and dialogue as stated in our initiative,” the statement said. “There is still a chance.”
The Nour Party's initiative sets out plans for dialogue talks which guarantee mechanisms for upcoming parliamentary elections and electoral guidelines.
According to the plan, President Morsy would also have to accept any eventual outcome from dialogue, as promised.
