The Salafi Nour Party has not chosen a slogan for upcoming parliamentary elections but it does not plan to use religious slogans for publicity, party spokesperson Yossury Hammad told state-run paper Al-Akhbar in an article published Wednesday.
The High Elections Commission has said candidates or parties that use religious slogans will be punished. Islamists have often used such messages during previous parliamentary elections, the most famous of which is the Muslim Brotherhood slogan “Islam is the Solution."
The elections commission on Wednesday began accepting nomination applications for the 28 November elections. It will accept applications for one week.
Hammad said the party will submit its candidate lists later this week.
The Nour Party will run for seats in constituencies where it has the most support, he said, adding that it hopes to gain appropriate representation in the next Parliament.
The party plans to field both individual candidates and candidate lists, Hammad said, adding that it left the Democratic Alliance and plans to forge alliances with other parties.
The Democratic Alliance includes more than 40 political parties, on top of which is the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party.
