Natives most frequent sexual harassers in Saudi Arabia: media

Native Saudi Arabians are the most frequent culprits in sexual harassment cases in the Gulf kingdom, a local newspaper has reported.

Native Saudis represent 59.5 percent of those behind sexual harassment crimes, according to al-Sharq newspaper.

The paper recorded 2,797 cases of sexual harassment in one year.

Non-Saudi nationals committed 39.9 percent of cases, numbering 1,138 in total.

The report, published on Al Sharq’s website on Saturday, said the capital – Riyadh – had seen the highest number of cases, with 650.

Jeddah witnessed 250, the Eastern Province 210, Mecca 180.

One hundred and seventy cases were reported in Madinah.

Yemenis topped the list of non-Saudis found guilty of sexual harassment, according to the report. Courts have ruled in 200 cases of harassment against women involving Yemeni nationals, as well as 40 cases of abuse against children.

Egyptians came second with 50 cases and 10 child abuse cases.
