The Muslim Brotherhood is holding a demonstration in support of President Mohamed Morsy Saturday evening, according to the local Brotherhood office’s media spokesperson Ashraf Omar.
The demonstration will bring together Morsy supporters from the governorates of Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea and New Valley.
Omar claimed that the demonstration was the first of its kind in Assiut, adding that aside from the Brotherhood the demonstration will also include members of Jama’a al-Islamiya, Ansar al-Sunnah group, as well as members of the Freedom and Justice, Construction and Development and Nour Parties.
Omar added that the Brotherhood wanted to highlight Upper Egypt’s voice and also combine the largest number of people who supported the president but were unable to travel to Cairo to demonstrate in front of Cairo University.
Omar also said that the Brotherhood expects 200,000 people to turn up for the rally, which will begin at Assiut’s Omar Makram Mosque.
