MB leader to meet with Shura candidates

The total number of Muslim Brotherhood (MB) candidates for upcoming mid-term Shura Council elections has reached 13, after the Supreme Electoral Council announced final lists, not including candidates from Alexandria and Sharqiya.

Essam el-Erian, member of the MB guidance bureau and group spokesman, said the total number of MB candidates had fallen to 13 after Ahmed el-Zehzami, a reserve candidate for Mansoura, was pushed to run in the place of Ali Barakat and Hussein Ibrahim, whose names weren’t included in the government-approved final list.

“We hope to field a total of 14 candidates in the elections, once all the electoral appeals are completed,” explained el-Erian.

Sources from within the group told Al-Masry Al-Youm on condition of anonymity that the guidance bureau had called for a meeting with MB candidates to offer them moral support and discuss the problems they faced in their respective constituencies.

The meeting, to be headed by MB Supreme Guide Mohamed Badei, is expected to be held early next week.
