Jehane Sadat’s exhibition “Landscape of the Heart” is a collection of paintings that span from 1986 to 2009.
It is the first time the former first lady’s work has been showcased. The paintings feature a series of colorful and timeless landscapes in oil that mark Sadat’s attachment to two countries–the United States and Egypt.
The paintings simply and quietly convey the idleness of a felucca on the Nile, a deer grazing tranquilly in a forest, or a colorful village.
Many people assisted with the opening of the exhibition, attracted by the opportunity to meet with an icon of Egyptian modern history as well as a natural curiosity to discover her work.
Encouraged in the first place by American friends to exhibit her artwork, Sadat chose to unveil it to the Egyptian public first, before sending her “Landscape of the Heart” to the US.
The exhibition, held at Margo Veillon Gallery of Modern Egyptian Art at the old AUC campus, can be viewed daily from 4pm to 8pm
