An official source from the Construction and Development Party, the political arm of Jama'a al-Islamiya, said Saturday that a man and his son shot to death one of its members, named Karim Abdel Ghany, in Mahalla, Gharbiya, following a dispute over political affairs.
The source added that the man was killed after both sides had an argument on the political conditions in the country, during which the alleged killers insulted Islamists, bearded men, and members of Islamists groups.
Informed sources said dozens of Salafis gathered in front of the Mahalla Public hospital, where the victim's dead body was taken. Gharbiya security forces, meanwhile, increased their presence in the area.
On Saturday, protesters marched on the main streets of Mahalla to protest poor economic conditions and called for the departure of President Mohamed Morsy.
Dozens of unknown people stormed the Salafi Nour Party headquarters in Mahallah, Gharbiya on the same day, pelting it with Molotov cocktails and setting it on fire. The assailants also stole some items inside the building before escaping. Security forces inspected the building and are tracking down the assailants.
Over the past few days, protesters in Gharbiya have staged demonstrations to oppose the appointment as governor of Ahmed al-Beyaly, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, as part of a governor reshuffle in which 17 new governors were appointed, of whom seven belonged to the Brotherhood.
