"You will be the designer of modern Egypt's clothes," late President Gamal Abdel Nasser told Italian designer Alessandro Monti.
Abdel Nasser called on Monti to send his designers to all Egyptian factories, showing great interest in his taste.
Monti, who worked in Egypt for 60 years, was called the "Magician of Designers" by factory owners, due to his new ideas and designs.
The designer, who later became an Egyptian citizenship, died on Monday at 90 years of age. He was buried in Alexandria.
The Italian Center in Cairo has displayed his works and designs in a large exhibition. Paolo Sabatini, director of the Italian Cultural Institute, said Monti was supposed to attend the exhibition but died one day before it was held.
Sabatini told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the center hired artist Mervat Gerges to organize the exhibition.
Monti was able to introduce new designs to the Egyptian clothing industry, relying on simplicity and good taste, Gerges said, adding that Egyptians must know Monti's history as he was a man who offered a lot to Egypt over the past 60 years.
