Presidential candidate Hisham al-Bastawisy said on Thursday that Islamists in Egypt had mellowed in their attitudes since the uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.
“The Islamic trends after the revolution have become more open and understanding,” he told Margaret Scobey, the US ambassador to Cairo. “They seek the good of the nation according to their vision," he said.
Bastawisy also said Egypt that would not allow any foreign interference in its internal affairs.
“Differences between the various political forces is a normal phenomenon after years of marginalization,” he said. “But they agree that no foreign intervention should be allowed.”
