Gheriany says Constituent Assembly to complete draft in November

The head of the Constituent Assembly said Monday that the body would complete a draft of the new constitution in early or mid-November, adding that its worif a court dissolves it before then, the next assembly could use its work as a starting point.

Meeting with a  31-member delegation from the European Union in Cairo, Hossam al-Gheriany said the Constituent Assembly could have finished by the end of October had not it been for Eid al-Adha falling at that time.

An administrative court is expected on Tuesday to resume hearing a case calling for the dissolution of the assembly on the grounds that MPs were selected for it.

But according to Gheriany, if the court disbands the assembly, the Constitutional Declaration grants President Mohamed Morsy the right to form a new one in the absence of a Parliament. Morsy can assign new members to the assembly or can choose to keep the current formation.

Gheriany said the assembly would still face opposition even if was disbanded then reformed.
