Gharbiya recorded its first mumps case after a female student in fourth grade was diagnosed with the virus, a source at the governorate’s health directorate said.
The girl was confined to her residence and given the required medications.
Ali al-Shahed, a preventive medicine official at the directorate, said the girl’s condition has stabilized, adding that the situation remains under control.
News outlets had reported that dozens of school students were diagnosed with the virus in Minya and Qena in Upper Egypt.
