Freedom and Justice Party: Military endangers itself by involvement in policy

The Freedom and Justice Party, the political party launched by the Muslim Brotherhood, continued its attack on the ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) on Thursday, calling for a swift power handover, claiming the military is endangering itself by getting involved in policy.

It demanded a road map for all the stages of the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections and the writing of the new constitution.

“Opinions about running the interim period have diverged. Some have urged extending it and worked on extending military rule,” the party said in a statement on Thursday.

“It became clear to everyone that the rulers are unable to take serious stances and political decisions. Reform and change will not start before power is handed to an elected civilian president.”

It said the SCAF did protect the revolution, but its remaining in office weakens its ability to continue doing so.

“Risks that endanger Egypt, as well as the SCAF, due to its running the country, have become clear to everyone,” the statement said, blaming this on the council's involvement in policy and its vague vision of Egypt's political future.

The best that can be done now is to hand power to an elected civlian authority with popular legitimacy and clear political vision, it said.

It added that protesting to pressure the rulers to achieve the people's demands has become pointless.
