Abdel Rehim al-Ghoul, former leading member of the dissolved National Democratic Party, has accused members of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation (ETUF) of assaulting him.
The former MP said the assault took place as he attempted to apply to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections under the workers allotment. Union members hurled insults at him and detained him for three hours in the office of the secretary general, he alleged.
“They called me a remnant of the former regime,” Ghoul said. “I had to shout back at them."
