The Freedom and Justice Party, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, called on the international community and international organizations, as well as "the free people of the world," to intervene to stop the “massacres taking place in Egypt”.
It called for "uncovering the truth about military rule so that there will not be another Syria in the region," following clashes that broke out between supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy on the one hand and police and army forces on the other near the Republican Guard headquarters in Salah Salem.
In an official statement on Monday, the party said, "We call on the great Egyptian people to rise against those who want to abduct their revolution with their tanks and armored vehicles even if they have to do so on the dead bodies of the people".
"The Egyptian people and the world woke up on Monday, 8 July 2013 to the sounds of live rounds being shot at peaceful protesters at the Republican Guards House while they were performing the dawn prayers in an appalling massacre."
The statement said that 34 people had been killed with the potential for more victims due to the dangerous nature of the reported injuries. There were also hundreds of critically-injured people whom ambulances were unable to transport to the hospital. Bystanders had to take the injured victims to the field hospital using their private cars and motorbikes.
"The massacre perpetrated by those criminals against peaceful protesters who reject the military coup and demand the return of elected President Mohamed Morsy is unprecedented in the history of the Egyptian army. There must be sensible people within the military institution who can prevent the continuation of these subversive practices, which are uncharacteristic of the Egyptian army."
The party ended its statement by saying, "The blood of the martyrs will only strengthen our will and this blood will curse the subversive criminals and those who helped them."
Clashes broke out between Morsy's supporters and security forces in front of the headquarters of the Republican Guards at dawn on Monday. A security source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the clashes led to the killing of a number of people, including a member of the Armed Forces.
