Egypt’s Health Ministry raises readiness to prepare for Gaza repercussions

The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population on Monday announced it will be raising the level of readiness in hospitals upon orders from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to accommodate the crisis in Gaza.

The Ministry of Health’s official Facebook page stated that Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting with the ministry’s undersecretaries and officials in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, North Sinai, Suez, Ismailia, Port Said, Damietta, and Sharqiya.

During the National Security Council meeting, Sisi instructed to follow up on the health system’s preparations to address any medical emergency related to possible repercussions from the Gaza Strip bombings.

Plan of action

The minister listened to a presentation from the head of the Central Administration for Critical and Urgent Care Khaled al-Khatib, according to the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

The presentation reviewed the action plan, which includes providing health services for specialized surgeries, complex injuries, fractures, burns, etc, as well as monitoring chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney failure, and tumors, the spokesperson explained.

The plan will also cover preventive services, through monitoring and treating infectious diseases and providing the necessary vaccinations,

Ghaffar added that the minister was assured of the availability of a sufficient stock of medicines, medical supplies, oxygen cylinders, and blood bags and plasma.

He was also assured of the readiness of hospitals, with manpower available for all specialties.

The minister ordered to per-equip a hospital to be placed on standby, so that it will as a focal point from the site of events through which cases are sorted and directed to referral hospitals.

The plan includes providing a number of mobile clinics to deal with certain medical cases and reduce pressure on referral hospitals.

And the spokesperson said that the minister listened to a presentation from the head of the ambulance authority Amr Rashid, regarding the authority’s plan to address any medical developments related to Gaza Strip repercussions.
