Egypt’s envoy in Rome, WFP discuss sending humanitarian aid to Gaza via Arish Airport

CAIRO, Oct 16 (MENA) – Egypt’s Ambassador in Rome Bassam Radhi has met with World Food Program’s Executive Director Cindy McCain to discuss plans for sending humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip via Rafah International Airport when agreement is reached on allowing access of aid to the enclave.

The Foreign Ministry posted on its Facebook page on Monday that Cindy expressed her deep appreciation for the pivotal role of Egypt in supporting the WFP’s programs especially in emergency of areas surrounding Egypt such as Libya, Sudan and recently the Gaza Strip.

Radhi, for his part, asserted that Egypt has always been shouldering its responsibilities and supporting the peoples who face humanitarian calamities, in addition to its backing to the role UN agencies in extending relief aid to afflicted people in any crises such as Palestinians and the Gaza Strip over more than 75 years of their humanitarian suffering.

He called for garnering up efforts of all the international community to achieve all the humanitarian and political objectives.

The WFP is considered the biggest humanitarian agency in the world and and it is based in Rome.(MENA)
