The Egyptian Coptic Church on Tuesday hailed the youth-led 25 January revolution, offering condolences to the families of martyrs who lost their lives during the 18-day protests.
The popular, anti-regime protests led to the resignation of former President Hosni Mubarak on 11 February after nearly 30 years in power.
A statement by the church, following a meeting between Pope Shenouda III, head of the Coptic church, and his ecclesiastical council, also praised the military foundation and its efforts to "protect Egypt both internally and externally."
