Libyan Islamist militants are holding dozens of Egyptian illegal immigrants at the coastal city of Misrata, Reuters reported on Sunday.
The agency said the captors belonged to Fajr Libya, the militia backed by the Islamist-dominated Libyan National Congress which has been fighting forces loyal to former army general Khalifa Haftar.
Libyan coastguards said last week they rescued mostly African immigrants who were boarding a sinking boat on their way to Europe.
A diplomatic source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Egypt is in contact with Libyan authorities to verify the news and ensure the release of the immigrants.
Egyptian authorities have warned against migration to Libya since the execution of 21 Egyptians in February by the Islamic State in Libya.
