Egyptian doctor contributes to discovering cure for paralysis caused by accidents

Dr. Mahmoud al-Sherbiny is an Egyptian expatriate professor of intensive care, who, together with his international team, has discovered a cure for paralysis caused by accidents, for the first time in the history of medicine.

“The team has applied drugs that were used before in the treatment of cancerous tumors to spinal injuries resulting from accidents and causing paralysis,” Dr. Sherbiny explained.

“The team found that these drugs prevent adverse reactions of certain proteins in the spinal cord, that prevent the healing of the nerves that are responsible for sensation and movement,” he added. “Unlike other nerves, these have the ability to regenerate.”

He said experiments on animals with a structure similar to human beings showed that they could move again after they were injured in the spinal cord.
