Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said Egypt will sign a number of contracts with the German Siemens company on Wednesday, aimed at building three power plants with a capacity of 14,400 megawatts, in addition to three stations in Beni Suef province, Borollos and the new administrative capital.
Egypt will obtain the first 4,400 megawatts in May 2017, he added.
In remarks from Berlin, on the sidelines of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s visit to Germany, Shaker said another agreement will be signed to establish a factory for producing wind farm equipment. The wind power plant will produce around 2,000 megawatts.
The minister expressed Egypt’s interest to take advantage of Germany’s expertise in field of the clean and renewable energy sources, given that Germany, and Siemens in particular, are considered to be one of the biggest producers of energy-related technology.
