Egypt launches solar energy platform to promote clean energy

CAIRO, March 4 (MENA) – Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker on Monday launched “Egypt Solar Energy Platform” as part of his ministry’s efforts to increase dependence on renewable sources of energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Launched in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Egyptian Electricity Holding Co., the New and Renewable Energy Authority, the Egyptian Electric Utility & Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency, and the Industrial Modernization Center, the platform is expected to boost the share of power generated by renewables in the country’s energy mix, Shaker said.

The platform will also help protect the environment and rationalize natural gas consumption, the minister added.

It is an interactive platform designed to facilitate the identification and monitoring of “solar power stations” installed by individuals and companies. It also streamlines their connection to the national grid through various distribution companies, while providing channels for communication with customers and relevant authorities via email, SMS, and platform notifications, according to a statement released by the electricity ministry.

Established at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, a central monitoring dashboard will enable real-time tracking of each project’s timeline to address any obstacles promptly, the statement read.

It will generate reports and statistics to monitor projects, connection requests, qualifications, and capacity assessment within the electricity network.

Moreover, a robust complaints system has been created, linking all relevant entities to expedite the resolution of grievances effectively, the ministry added. (MENA)
