A shipment of raw materials to produce China’s Sinovac vaccine touched down at Cairo International Airport on Friday morning.
Egypt’s VACSEREA will use the materials to produce about two million doses of the Chinese vaccine.
Included in the shipment was an additional 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, which Egypt has been using since the beginning of its vaccination campaign.
The Ministry of Health and Population said that the shipment came as part of an agreement signed between VACSERA and the Sinovac.
The ministry added that it expects to manufacture 40 million doses of Sinovac within the next year, adding that Egypt is one of the first countries in Africa to start manufacturing coronavirus vaccines.
