The fourth edition of the Dubai Press Club report “Arab Media Outlook” says Al-Masry Al-Youm has the highest readership among Egyptian newspapers, with 61 percent of the total number of Egyptian newspaper readers, making it the most widespread and popular newspaper in the country.
The report also said the independent Al-Masry Al-Youm reached that position in 2011, while state newspapers, such as Al-Ahram and Al-Akhbar, strove to restore their credibility among the public.
According to the report, Al-Masry Al-Youm’s readership went up from 34 percent in 2009 to 61 percent in 2012, that of Al-Akhbar reached 53 percent, Al-Ahram 51 percent, state-run Al-Gomhurriya decreased from 39 percent to 34 percent, and independent Al-Dostour had 11 percent.
The report pointed out that Al-Masry Al-Youm’s distribution has doubled over four years from 2008 to 2011, and that the revolution put it in the first place, specifically as of mid-2011, followed by Al-Ahram.
The report also made note of the English edition of Al-Masry Al-Youm, Egypt Independent.
It also said that Al-Masry Al-Youm’s electronic site became one of the 40 most important sites in Egypt, doubling the number of its visitors to 36.4 percent, followed by Youm7 with 32.8 percent, Al-Jazeera with 8.7 percent, Al-Akhbar with 5 percent, Al-Tahrir with 1.9 percent, Akhbar Al-Youm with 1.7 percent, Al-Dostor with 1.5 percent, Al-Ahram with 1.1 percent, Masrawy with 1.1 percent, and Al-Gomhurriya with 1 percent.
