“I did not leave Egypt,” dismissed interior minister Habib al-Adli told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Wednesday, adding that he had not been summoned for investigations, nor had he assigned a lawyer for his defense.
“I was not requested to submit any documents about what happened during the demonstrations,” he said, declining to provide details on how and why police were withdrawn from the streets of Cairo late last month at the height of the protests.
“Reports in the state press about me owning three villas in Hurghada is not true,” he added.
Egypt's Attorney-General has received several requests to investigate al-Adli for ordering the killing of demonstrators, withdrawing police from the streets of the capital, and releasing of convicted criminals to terrify the public.
He has also been accused of playing a role in the bombing of Alexandria's Church of St. Mark and St. Peter on New Year’s Eve.
