Defense Minister Sedqi Sobhy said on Saturday that “armed forces are able to make presidential elections succeed.”
During attendance the Badr 2014 maneuver at the third field army, Sobhy said, “We will prove to the world that we are able to achieve the second requirement of the roadmap.”
“We are responsible for securing presidential elections outside [polling stations] only. Civil police is completely in charge of securing presidential elections,” he added.
He also added that armed forces are in charge of achieving stability and security of Egypt locally and abroad.
Sources close to the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, which supports ousted president Mohamed Morsy, said the alliance has devised a plan to force the government to postpone the presidential elections by continuing protests and sit-ins in key areas, such as Tahrir and Rabaa al-Adaweya squares.
