Brothers say church didn’t invite them to Easter mass

“Muslim Brotherhood representatives did not attend Easter mass because the Coptic Church did not invite them,” said Brotherhood member Hazem Farouk, justifying the group's absence from the occasion.

Farouk added that group members took the initiative to visit churches on Easter Sunday to congratulate the priests. “This is a manifestation of the principle of citizenship that we believe in,” he said.

Sameh Maurice, pastor of the Qasr al-Dobara Church, said Muslims and Christians are "brothers".

“We did not invite the Muslim Brotherhood to the mass, but we are honored that they came,” he said.

"The secular state with an Islamic reference that the Muslim Brotherhood wants is not different from a religious state,” he said. “We want a purely secular state, but it's up to the people to decide.”
