Leading Muslim Brotherhood figure Sobhi Saleh said on Monday that the group will not support Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh in the forthcoming presidential elections. Fotouh is a member of the Brotherhood, but has fallen out with senior group figures of late.
“He did not abide by the group’s decision not to run in those elections,” Saleh said.
Abouel Fotouh said he would not join the group’s newly established Freedom and Justice Party. “I will run in the elections as an independent,” he said.
