There are no deals taking place for the release of the Muslim Brotherhood leaders who were arrested two months ago, said Essam el-Erian, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau.
Following his release, el-Erian reiterated that communication between the Muslim Brotherhood and other political parties will continue, and that the institutional nature of the Brotherhood has not been affected by the arrests of some of its members.
Dialogue with the other opposition parties will continue in order to propose a national agenda that is in Egypt’s interests, said el-Erian.
While Deputy Supreme Guide Mahmoud Ezzat declined to comment on the recent arrests, el-Erian called for a a review of state security procedures as well as the abolishing of precautionary arrest. Such arrests are used to punish politicians, intellectuals and members of the opposition who anger the regime, he said.
Politicians and intellectuals are incarcerated for months without any evidence, he added.
Three days ago, a court ordered the release of Brotherhood leaders.
