The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party has accused other political forces of exerting pressure on the High Elections Committee to ban it from using its slogan "Islam is the Solution" in its electoral campaign.
“We win syndicate elections without using that slogan anyway,” said party candidate Essam Mokhtar.
The committee closed parliamentary candidate applications at 5 pm on Monday, prior to announcing the final results.
So far, there are 14 lists and 580 individual candidates in Giza, against 28 lists and 1030 individuals in Cairo.
For his part, former presidential candidate Mortada Mansour opted to run in the parliamentary elections instead. “There won’t be any presidential elections under the current circumstances,” he said, pointing to the Muslim Brothers trying to manipulate the political scene, as he put it.
