Armed Forces jets flew over Tahrir Square as celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the 6 October War celebrations started on Sunday.
Traffic has been flowing smoothly in downtown Cairo despite the closure of Tahrir Square.
Meanwhile, dozens of citizens have flocked to Tahrir to participate in the festivities. Citizens were seen carrying banners and pictures of Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in support for the Armed Forces. Several small boats were seen transporting people in the Nile.
Folk dance and music troupes are expected to take part in the celebrations.
